Daytime Moon

It rained most of the day, today. It snowed somewhere close, but not here. When the clouds parted, they hung low over the surrounding mountains. While looking at the clouds hugging the horizon, I noticed the moon, high in the sky. It will be full soon. Meanwhile, it sure was pretty playing peek-a-boo with low-slung clouds. In the distance, a jet left a trail that I didn’t notice until after I had taken the picture.

Patr贸n E. Baloney

Meet Patr贸n. She’s My other dog; another pup my son left with me. She and I went for walks this weekend to tire her and distract her a little from the loss of her “brother,” Brutis. She’s restless and not sleeping well since we lost him. I don’t think she’s eating well either, but she can use a little less food (like her “mom”). 馃檪

She’s a good girl and a happy girl and loves to have her belly rubbed. She comforts me when I cry. She is afraid of the vacu眉m cleaner, too. If I ever need to get her outside voluntarily, all I have to do is start that thing. While Brutis was afraid, he always stayed close to protect me from that horrible machine, just in case. Patr贸n feels no such responsibility. She runs and disappears for as long as I’m pushing that machine through the house.

Brutis was a nervous boy and wasn’t all that friendly to other people or animals鈥攁lthough he was a love to me and a select few others. I imagine a lot of his nervousness was because of me and my worry about what he might do. Over the years, I kept him protected from situations where he’d be uncomfortable. While I was happy to do that for him, it kept us from doing as many things as we might have over the years. Patr贸n and I can travel and visit and I won’t have to worry about her snapping at someone because she’s afraid. She’ll roll over and invite you to rub her fat ol’ belly. She is a friendly little girl, and I can take her anywhere. Now I will.

I miss Brutis so much, but I have Patr贸n to entertain me and keep me company. She’s a really sweet girl. And, she’s a funny girl, too. She has beautiful markings and reminds me of a lion, the way she lopes and swings her head back and forth. She also has a tuft of long hair just at the top of her shoulders.

In this picture, I tried to capture the “hunter” in action鈥攂ut every time I hit my knees to get a face-on shot of her at a distance, she ran back and threatened to slobber on my lens.

I Never Tire of this View

I know I post lots of pictures of this view, but I never tire of it. Tonight again, the light reflected on these mountains illuminated them to look pink/orange, and leaving everything else in shadow. They really stand out.

Look What I Found!

If you shoot for the stars and hit the moon, it’s OK. But you’ve got to shoot for something. A lot of people don’t even shoot. 鈥擟onfucius

It’s cold here in the mornings. Starting the vehicle 15 minutes before leaving gave me time to take a few pictures of the moon before it sank below the hill in front of my house. As I write this, it is rising in the east and big and white and brilliant. It’s too bright now.

I took the camera to work this morning, hoping I could get a shot from a higher floor of the parking garage. I couldn’t even see it from there. I didn’t have time to climb to the top of the garage. Maybe tomorrow morning will be better.

Beautiful Sunrise this Morning

I have to head to work in a minute, but I took the time to snap this picture. You can’t beat a Western Colorado Sunrise for color and inspiration.

Wine Tour

Toured some of the Palisade wineries today. We stopped at Red Fox Cellars. What a fun place! Among other attractions, not the least of which was their wine, was this arrangement of flowers that I have filtered.

We wandered around Palisade Colorado via Clyde and his wagon.

We had such a fun time. Palisade is a sweet little town that sits below Mt. Garfield, in Colorado. They grow grapes and make great wine. You should visit sometime.

It was a great day in Western Colorado.

Summer Storm

While it’s cold here now, I am looking through old photographs and found this one. I love how the clouds seem to fall out of the sky as sun still lights the Bookcliffs in the background.

Winter Weather

A storm moved through here today. It snowed a little, but melted almost as fast as it fell. As the weather cleared out, in the distance, the clouds hugged Mt. Garfield.

Here’s another photo, an iPhone 5s photo, that I applied some Topaz Labs’ Impression filters to. There doesn’t seem to be a limit to the number of looks you can create. I shot this looking toward Grand Junction.

Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.
